As agreed, Drayden rewarded Black of his victory with the Legend Badge, allowing him to compete in the Pokémon League tournament. Thanks to their words of encouragement, Black regained his motivation and had Braviary use Air Slash on a door leading outside, blasting it open and letting in a gust of cold air that weakened Druddigon enough for Braviary to defeat it. Unexpectedly, Elite Four member Caitlin suddenly burst in and had her Gothitelle mentally connect Black with the Gym Leaders that had been captured by Team Plasma. When Braviary was on the brink of defeat, Black once again considered giving up. Due to Drayden's Druddigon being used to moving around in narrow caves, it had the advantage over Black's Braviary in the similarly narrow corridor. In Hallway Hijinks, Black and Drayden had their battle in a corridor reserved for the event staff. Since the deadline for earning eight Badges would technically only close when the League tournament itself began, Black demanded to battle Drayden for his Badge, which he accepted.
