![]() So come for the music, but stay for a grin-inducing sense of unity. ($100 for a black satin BSB bomber jacket? I'll pass.) “Backstreet’s old, ok?!” he cracks.īut this time around we’re all over 21 (for $24 you get 26 oz of booze – it's Vegas, baby!) and a little wiser about the merchandise table. ![]() “Is it OK if we have another 24 years?” he asks. Onstage, Littrell notes they’ve been together for 24 years. (Which is probably why the smokin' backup dancers, dressed in PVC and harnesses, kick it up a notch during the costume changes, of which there are three.) These Boys have firmly been in the ‘men’ camp for some time: Richardson is 45, Dorough is 43, Littrell is 42, McLean is 39 and Carter, 37, had a baby with his wife the year after his Dancing with the Stars run. “(Expletive) Las Vegas, baby!” yells out McLean, breathing heavily into the mic after their first song. Twenty years later, no one dropped a chair. Song-after-song, they nailed a dance-heavy program peppered with favorites like Quit Playing Games with My Heart, All I Have to Give and As Long As You Love Me, the latter delivered with a folding-chair dance breakout inspired by their 1997 music video. The men of BSB said they’d spent eight weeks of dance prep and vocal training to prepare for the 20-song set, and it showed. “How many ladies got a hall pass to come spend the night with the Backstreet Boys?” asks Carter. “Are we taking you guys down memory lane?” asks Dorough. Bachelorettes wear tiaras and shirts that read “I still heart BSB" others gulp shots waiting to weave through metal detectors.Īnd then, just after 9 p.m., Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, and Kevin Richardson, dressed in pure white, descend from glowing red boxes inside the Axis theater and immediately launch into Larger than Life. Thirty-somethings, the ones who used to lose their minds over these guys on TRL (before Carson Daly was known for a thing called The Voice), queue up with semi-forlorn husbands and boyfriends. That phrase was literally written in glitter on attendees' t-shirts as a crowd of 4,600 piled into Wednesday night’s kick-off of the Backstreet Boys’ 10-week Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. Here’s a fun one of them performing in Europe at Bravo Super Show thanks to Janie Keys and another one of one of their first performances in the states when the song was first released from the BSBFangirls page.LAS VEGAS – Oh my god, they’re back again. The first live performances of this song remind us of the fact that these boys were just babies when they recorded and released it. Nonetheless, the video is iconic and we have to look back at this masterpiece: Official Music Video. Nick sang along to Brian’s vocals because Nick hadn’t cut his yet. He’s also shared that they made that video so early that the final version of the song wasn’t even complete. Brian has shared that they had to sing the song at double speed because the video is in slow motion so they had to speed up the sound to match the visual. They joke about this video now, talking about their nipples cutting glass in the cold. Howie’s famous wink and that slow body roll. The rain pouring down on them in their pastel shirts. It was a Number 1 single in multiple countries, reached number 2 in the US, and it was the first time they danced in the rain for all of us to see □ Here’s a look back at some of our favorite Quit Playing Games performances: Quit Playin Games with my Heart yielded a lot of milestones for them. Since then they’ve continued to play this live in most of their shows. I can also remember very clearly the first time I saw them perform this live during their Backstreet Boys tour back in 1998. Written by Max Martin and Herbie Crichlow, it’s no wonder it rose to fame. Seems like a lifetime ago (and for some of the fandom’s babies, it was!), but I can still remember hearing the song on the radio and immediately wondering who these boys were. That means that it has been almost 25 years since I fell in love with these boys. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Quit Playing Games with my Heart internationally (followed by a US release in June of 1997).
